The Free Market

Kids' Corner
The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation is pleased to provide a number of educational/promotional items in an effort to promote recycling in your school, classrooms, and in the home.

RIRRC offers many options for Rhode Islanders to learn more about how they can contribute to responsible solid waste management. As the Corporation's mission is to be environmentally conscientious and fiscally responsible in managing the state's solid waste, it is equally important to gain the support of all residents and businesses.

Education is the key to meeting this goal.

The following educational resources are available to you at no charge:

  • Tours of the Central Landfill and the Materials Recycling Facility.
  • MaxMan Presentation, a 30 minute classroom visit by the Resource Recovery recycling superhero
    (most appropriate for grades K-5).
  • Educational materials for use in the classroom or at home.
  • An interactive CD containing a virtual tour of the Central Landfill and recycling facilities.
  • MaxMan and Pamela Watts video on residential recycling programs.
  • Consumer brochures on recycling, composting, household hazardous waste, and more.

RIRRC also invites you to visit their web site -- www.RIRRC.org -- which is chock full of information and links on waste management programs and practices.

ResourceXchangeAnd be sure to visit ResourceXchange - where businesses Exchange Resources Free Online. This free service provides a forum for businesses, schools, colleges, non-profit agencies, and government agencies to reduce and reuse. Participation fosters the exchange of reusable materials. This diverts materials from disposal and makes them available to entities to reuse or recycle.

The Free MarketThe Free Market is a quick, easy and free way to find someone who will take your clutter off your hands. People on the Free Market are always looking for usable furniture, appliances, electronics, exercise equipment, lawn & garden tools, and more! Log on to list items you have, browse the catalog of free stuff, or place a request for an item you need!

To schedule a presentation or tour, please call Resource Recovery at 401-942-1430 x256. And remember to say that you heard it here at Recycling for R.I. Education!

MaxMan, The Recycling Superhero

The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation is pleased to offer -- FREE OF CHARGE -- a comprehensive recycling presentation at your school featuring MaxMan, RIRRC's professionally costumed mascot.

MaxMan's presentation on how to recycle both at school and at home will be tailored to the children's age level and all materials will be provided by Resource Recovery.

The presentation lasts about 30 minutes and includes an introduction to recycling basics, an interactive presentation and time for follow-up questions.

A recycling expert from Resource Recovery's educational department will also accompany MaxMan to offer additional facts and examples of recycling that are sure to fascinate children and adults alike!

Add a new dimension to your classroom's recycling education program and provide the opportunity for all of us to focus on how to "reduce, reuse, and recycle" in school and at home.

To schedule a MaxMan presentation, please call Resource Recovery at 401-942-1430 x265. And remember to say that you heard it here at Recycling for R.I. Education!
